Von Canon

Von is a multi-faceted visual artist whose work is creatively expressed through various visual mediums ranging from digital collage artwork, film making, and an emphasis on photography. Born and raised here, Von currently lives and works out of his hometown, Milwaukee WI.

Von’s artistic career began in 2012 with briefly pursuing Music Theory & Sound Engineering on the collegiate level, before leaving to study Culinary Arts at Le Cordon Bleu in Minnesota. While studying, Von accepted a job offer to join the culinary team at Universal Studios Orlando and took his culinary talents down to Florida, where he also completed his degree program concurrently. After working under several extremely talented chefs in very noteworthy kitchens for a while, he came back home to reconnect with family while also focusing on expanding new ground under the art mediums he always found the most comfort in.

Outside of his professional culinary degree, Von is self-taught within all of the mediums he currently practices. From the plate to the photograph, his art has always utilized vibrantly deep colors as a foundational crux from which the overall theme and message of his work is built upon. From Von’s perspective, color can be the most useful and truest expression of how we feel next to language and diction. The inspirational core of Von’s work is rooted in his personal pledge to creating art that is not only reflectively synced with the Black experience, but also free from the racially biased stigmas that actively limit it. Understanding that Black people & POC are not monolithic, Von’s commitment to creating art that liberates people who look like him, has birthed an ongoing journey that evolves as our collective understanding does.
