a poem by Astrid Ferguson

Mother

Summon your trees

Tell them... we’ve lost our roots

Mother

Beckon your flowers

Tell them... our stems have split blooms

Mother

Bow the wind

Tell him... we have swayed in beset gloom

Mother

Invite the sky

Tell her... our clouds have turned into puddles of revenge doom

Mother

Whisper to the sun

Tell her... we have dimmed her light with our burned tongues

Mother

Stencil the rain

Tell it... we’ve grown in a fruitful desert where cactus no longer needs watering to spear more hate

Mother... mother... mother

I send you my apology because the buildings of power continue to race over your reign

-Mother Nature we have forgotten our seeds need your earth just as we have grown accustomed to still birth
