Pretty Thing

a poem by Alnaika Barry

The prettiest flowers, for the prettiest thoughts
She wandered through fields of Orchids
Her palms raised facing the sky
Let the sun rays shine through your fingers
It will help you tell time
Like the shades and tones we all admire
Roses,
Orchids,
Tulips for Jade
Her skin glistened while it began to rain
Place your feet steady on the ground
Be one with the earth, feel centered in the mud
Feel the roaring in your womb
You are a woman of this earth
Let it cover your soul, love
Let the pretty things consume
Be oneself in all the chaos
Admire the pretty things
you neglected
too soon
