a poem by Sophia Mihailidis

i stopped clicking my heels together

as soon as i realized

that closing my eyes and whispering wishes

would not get me home again

i didn’t find a yellow brick road to guide me

instead, i found a patch of dirt

i planted the seeds i had in my pocket

and watched them grow into flowers

i stopped clicking my heels together

as soon as i realized

that home isn’t a place i can go back to

it’s a feeling that never left
