a poem by Abyssinia Pla ElWe used to travel on a dirt road to get to school. The sandy gravel dusted our shoes. The dog in the nearby yardbarked “whoooo,”when we walked past. Then, people like us were pushed out of the neighborhood. Tar covered our footprints. Cars drove over our steps. The dog stopped asking who was near.
