More Baggage Than Person

a poem by Theresa Vogrin

Our friendship has turned into a suitcase
on the conveyor belt of an airport’s baggage claim
that never gets picked up.

Something forgotten.
Something unwanted.

This time around
I won’t run back to grab it again,
to drag it along for another endless year,
for another dreadful journey
because all it does
is weigh me down
when all I want
is to fly.
