I’ve been moaning

a poem by Jamie Leondaris

I’ve woken myself up from my moaning,
Tired of the continual groaning,
It’s as if I’m remembering everything wrongful I ever did.

There was the time I didn’t help my sister when a friend bullied her.
I groan.

Didn’t pick my father in a game of soccer during a family Christmas lunch.
I moan.

Things I said to ex-lovers.
I startle and wake…

Things I said to my mother.
I can’t sleep now, I wonder if both our hearts continue to break?
Things I said to old friends.
Where are they now I wonder?

Things I never got to say to my grandmother.
Did she find god in eternal slumber?
