George Kevin Jordan (GKJ) is an artist, illustrator, and writer based out of DC. His work seeks to explore, celebrate and interrogate Black and Black/Queer culture, nature, and travel. He uses mediums such as watercolor, gouache, and ink to examine Black and Black/Queer life in a variety of situations from mundane domestic settings, to exotic locales, mythologies and folklore. The work may end on watercolor paper, on napkins, cardboard or canvas. His bright palettes recall the whimsical, playful ways in which children interpreted their joy in their work.

gouache and watercolor paintings that celebrate black and black queer culture, nature, and everyday life.

GKJ spent most of his life as a journalist working in almost every platform from daily newspaper, to consumer magazine, to online publication, writing articles, essays and blog posts. He uses his reportage to investigate an issue and try to bring those complex nuances back into a piece of art. He also pulls from his nomadic travels, living in several black and black/queer Mecca cities over the course of his adult life, to inform his work.

Through his work, GKJ hopes to bring art into people's lives, and encourage others to take a leap of faith and explore the arts no matter where they are in life. GKJ lives by the mantra: “let’s make beautiful,” which is a call to arms for people to understand their innate power to create something amazing in the world, and also encourage others to do the same.
