SUICIDE PREVENTION

On the day August 23rd, 2019 my best friend attempted suicide. This was in the earlier stage of our friendship and I did not know how severe her mental illness was because she hid it well. The topic of suicide is a sensitive subject for many people and is spoken about often through media, seminars etc. Yet, many teenagers go unheard and signs go undetected for too long then it becomes too late.

There are multiple lists of ways to try to prevent and detect suicidal thoughts or behaviors incorporated in my college. In the midst of my best friend’s attempt she called me and I searched for tools online to calm her down and they really helped. During this call she would constantly say she had no one so the “you are not alone” photo suggests otherwise. Oftentimes people who are suicidal or depressed convince themselves that no one cares about them even when there are people who love them. Suicide hotlines are often overlooked but they are very useful for those who are afraid to speak to a family member or friend. I simply added a screenshot of the hotline number which appears whenever you search anything suicide related.
