BLACK DOES CRACK

they say

black doesn't crack

but black does crack

i saw blacks do crack

in the 80s

the sickness passed down

to their babies

they say

black doesn't crack

i saw blacks crack

when their sons

were ripped away

stripped of due process

and all

of their sunny days

they say

black

doesn't crack

but black

does crack

i saw a rose

sprout from beneath

the street

and so i cracked a smile

for the black
