HOME HIGHLIGHTS
MI CASA
The overall topic of my project began with questioning what a home is. Specifically, how people who rent often dream of owning a home but overlook how a home can be anywhere as long as you are with the right people. It shifted to appreciation of Chicago life despite its issues. I have always rented in Chicago and my biggest goal in life is to one day buy a house and make it my home. However, I also love my home city despite all its fucked up details.
It’s been a long day
I’ve come a long way
I gotta hop on the train
And find my way home--nothing I haven’t done before
I missed this,
The stank of the trolley as these people sell socks and leave their pee in Starbucks coffee cups
The signs say they disinfect for COVID, but these seats looking darker
Lord knows how many booty cheeks have sweat on these seats
How many tears have been wiped off a face and onto one of these crusty windows
There goes the Panda Express I threw up on that one night
I would’ve hated to clean those windows up
Anyway
Here come the fancy 10-story gyms with too many windows and not enough people
The same old white lady on the treadmill
Here comes the widest turn on the Brown Line, just over the Chicago river
Crazy how they dye it green every year and its people remain hopeless
