In my vision board, I used a collection of images that represent mental health and the range of self-care methods. I chose the topic of healthy outlets for your emotions and how they can be practiced in your everyday life. As displayed on my vision board there are different types of hobbies or simple acts of taking time for yourself. The significance of the topic is other than the obvious is to somewhat highlight the silver lining and be optimistic. The emphasis is on how important it is to learn to take a break and do something that isn’t stressful and brings you joy and peace. It could be painting, playing an instrument, watching a show, or even taking a long bath. 


In this topic of healthy outlets, a subtopic that was seen on the surface si the range of hobbies people can participate in. There was also the talk of getting to know yourself and see what works best for you and how you can incorporate it into your life. Another subtopic and was somewhat hidden, but to give options other than self-harm and to not hurt yourself to release or feel emotions.


This conversation of how focusing on yourself and your needs is a part of mental health and there are outlets for your emotions and thoughts other than harming or trapping yourself in your mind. It can be released as something beautiful and help offer you control. Improving your overall emotional state.

 

Dressed in black. I was okay. 

Others avoiding putting mascara on. 

I apply an extra coat.

The only makeup I was allowed at 15. 

I’m ready to go and dress my clueless younger sister. 


Who am I to call her clueless when I was aware

But still disoriented and at a loss.
She still expressed more than me 

As she cried seeing the rest of the family breakdown.

Remorse and heartache 

I felt incapable of it.


Neutral and unphased 

We arrive, and immediately her body surrounded

I walk past the open doors

The cool breeze surrounds my bare arms.

My heels make it known I didn’t stop
