Space Between the Tissues in Gift Boxes of Time
a poem by Astrid Ferguson
In between our words
Our Hugs,
Our Hands,
Our Cheeks,
I’m allowing space
Space not to be measured by rulers or equated to time
But space
Just like the invisible line between
Your side and mine of this queen size bed
Space
Similar to the uneven gaps
Between our teeth
Space
So I can run my fingers through
Your hair in different angles
With the same hands at the same time
Space
So you can reach higher than our shared blue sky
Space
So we can grow as lotus flowers from mud
Together, enriching our soil at our own time
