Mind Games
a poem by Rachel Gaillard
“Your actions will show.”
How so? How so?
Do you expect me to be undermined
and pushed aside
by your forthright criticism through a sharp mouth ?
but it’s a soft mouth
to match your soft eyes,
golden eyes.
Oh!
I’m caught— in a foolish mental game
by the same eyes that scan me with contempt
like I am not worthy.
but don’t you realize? It is you who should fight!
I am the prize! I am golden!
Yet I will never set my foot on a pedestal
like you— to yourself embolden.
