Flapper by Another Name

a poem by Arthur Jackson V

Across adjacent river seine

garçon blows

saxophone like steamengine

If a steamengine could sing something

like Billie Holliday in old New York

I sit and smoke &

read quiet-like to threatening bee to calm

itch to sting

The sax player swirls and lands

& swirls again over

Seagulls follow charmed by the

trill

This city's  romance that doesn't

require a partner

Paris, can I kiss you?

It's been so long since I've tasted

lips forgot

those notes before before

I'll follow your lead call

me your bird

Flapper by another name

I don't require romantics

Done gave that up last time

Just a kiss once

more with feeling trill&

whirl
