America Trumps Prejudice

a poem by Ian Dunton

Have you seen the news,
we’re marching backwards,
what did America choose?

I know I’m just a white boy,
but I’ve been reading Saul Williams
and Langston Hughes.

We stand on a precipitous brink,
what would the good reverend think?

People, give that some thought,
otherwise martyred for naught.

Time to cast aside our prejudice
and get back on the path to social justice.

No one is less than the rest of us,
it’s time we realize this!
